Since its inception in 1985, the annual charity weekend enjoyed a heralded reputation as the most prestigious charity sporting events in the country. Started in 1985 when the founder, Earvin “Magic” Johnson was still an active player but had the passion to help youth realize their dreams of going to college.
So Earvin “Magic” Johnson created ‘A Midsummer Night’s Magic’ which at the time included an All-Star basketball game and black-tie dinner – all proceeds benefited the United Negro College Fund.
In the later years, after Mr. Johnson’s COO passed and a scholarship program named in her honor, the Taylor Michaels Scholarship Program became the beneficiary of the expanded charity weekend.
As MJF celebrated the 20th and last ‘A Midsummer Night’s Magic’ Weekend the events had expanded from just a dinner and All-Star game to include a block party, a night of music and a golf tournament!
