Our Community Empowerment Centers (CECs) provide innovative solutions to traditional problems that affect the academic development of our students.  Alarming reports have been issued that directly link the inability in individual student learning to the fact that they cannot read.  Illiteracy is a national problem with a tremendous cost to taxpayers.

Since reading literacy is the key foundation to all academic learning we officially launched the “Magic of Reading Program” also known as MRP on January 13th, 2012.

The Magic of Reading Program (MRP) is an interactive multiple modality learning program/class that provides students access to resources, programs, technology and mentors/volunteers who will work with them for a minimum of six months to improve their reading skills and increase cultural awareness. Through utilization of traditional textbook reading and innovative technology, students will be provided an opportunity to grow academically, socially and culturally.  As special incentive, students will have the opportunity to receive gift cards and win prizes based on their participation and overall improvement.

MRP is broken into 3 components which include:
1.      Create Reading Proficiency
2.      Improve Self Esteem
3.      Raise Cultural Awareness

There are a number of ways that you can get involved to support MRP.  As we replicate this program nationally we are seeking to establish partnerships with organizations and corporations who share our vision.
